Julia Duva is a multidisciplinary artist, working primarily in Ceramics, with additional focus in Textile, Metal, and Performance.

Their work is born from a need they have possessed since early childhood to understand their body, both internally and in relation to others. Much of Duva’s work focuses on the experience of sexuality, gender identity, and modes of expression in a female body and the ways that can be both limiting and liberating. Much like their experiences in their body, the nature of the materials they work with hold multiple states of being, and that duality and contrast is omnipresent in their work. The malleability and durability of clay, the masculinity of metalwork combined with the femininity of the craft of textile – all of these things work together to represent the constant push and pull in oneself that comes with leading a life of self-examination. Because of the focus on the body, much of Duva’s work has been centered on wearable art or sculpture that requires touch, interaction, and movement.
